Head of School Update - Thanksgiving 2024

Dear Lakeview Families,

As we approach the Thanksgiving season, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on the numerous connections we’ve formed within our community. I am deeply grateful for the relationships that have flourished among students, faculty, and families throughout the school year.

One heartwarming example of these connections is lower school students adopting upper school teams and cheering them on with posters at games and other competitions. The reciprocal nature of these interactions, such as seniors mentoring younger students and sharing experiences like attending the GISA-AAA State One-Act Play Champions performance of “The Addams Family” on Halloween day, exemplifies our school’s unity. Upper school students also assisted lower school students in the morning carpool this semester, fostering a spirit of camaraderie.

The collaboration between our middle school students and our youngest learners is a testament to the heart of our school. When middle schoolers write books and read their stories to PreK’s three and four-year-olds, they create enriching connections that inspire both groups.

Another connection will be displayed later today as the school gathers to watch an epic showdown between BlazeSports and our varsity basketball teams. BlazeSports is a wheelchair basketball program that provides competitive opportunities for athletes. The game will feature one of our talented middle schoolers, John Grimsley, whose team takes on last year’s state basketball champions, the Lakeview Lions. I hope you will join us—the game begins at 2:30 p.m. in the WAC, and everyone is invited to attend.

Your involvement in these activities has significantly impacted our school community, and the connections I witness daily extend beyond our students. Our parents showed overwhelming love and support in our recent Terrific Thursday luncheon, the Fall Festival, campus decorations, and the 4th grade’s Colonial Days celebration and feast. Our grandparents showed up in record numbers for this year’s Grandparents & Special Friends Day. The engagement of our families is vital in making these occasions not only successful but memorable.

Moreover, our connections extend beyond the school. Earlier this week, the 6th grade hosted a virtual author visit with Robert Buyea, the author of the Mr. Terupt book series. He discussed the writing process with the students in hopes of inspiring them to explore their own writing aspirations, demonstrating the lasting influence of such an inspiring encounter. The Veterans Day assembly with Brigadier General Kevin Jarrard served as a poignant reminder of the values we cherish and our gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy during this Thanksgiving season.

It is great to see everyone working together—and it is working. Thank you for being an essential part of our Lakeview community! Our school is a true family, and I am proud to be a part of it.
