What is the Georgia Promise Scholarship? Georgia Promise Scholarship Program is aimed to empower families to pursue exceptional educational programs through nonpublic schooling, including private school. Should eligible families choose to leave public school (or forgo attending as a new kindergartener) to participate, the Georgia Promise Scholarship will allow families to use funds for private school tuition and fees.
How does it work? Eligibility
Family resides in the attendance zone of a school listed on the Governor's Office of Student Achievement list of lower-performing public schools.
Student is currently enrolled in a Georgia public school for two consecutive semesters or entering Kindergarten.
Application - The online application portal opens in early 2025. Initial funding will be available on or after July 1, 2025.
Award - $6,500 per student for the 2025-2026 academic year. Up to a 5% administrative fee may apply.
FAQS: 1. If a student lives in an eligible attendance zone, but does not currently attend that school, are they still eligible? Yes. A student does not have to attend the listed public school to qualify; simply residing in the attendance zone qualifies a family. For example, an elementary student residing in a low-performing high school zone would qualify.
2. If a student qualifies for the Georgia Promise Scholarship is it dependent on the school staying on the eligible attendance zone lists? No. Once a student qualifies and receives the scholarship, the student will keep the scholarship for the following years regardless of the attendance zone school's performance.
SB10 (State Bill 10), also known as the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (GSNS), is a scholarship funded by the State that provides students in Georgia who have a special education eligibility under IDEA to use the funds the district would have received from the state to pay for tuition at an authorized, participating private school. This potentially applies to any student with an active IEP or 504 plan.
There is a list provided by the state (and updated annually) for parents to utilize when looking at private school options. You can find the list by clicking here.
How can I find out my child’s SB10 award letter and amount?
Parents can use the SB10 Calculator and enter their child’s information to generate their SB10 Award Letter. The SB10 calculator can be found by clicking here.
What do parents have to do to receive SB10 funds?
Parents who opt to utilize SB10 funds will be required to come to their chosen approved and participating private school once a quarter to sign the back of the SB10 check. All SB10 checks are sent directly to the participating private school.
